2017 Winner: Hannah Verma

Hannah is a sophomore at Yale University, double majoring in Molecular Biology and Political Science with a concentration in Health Policy. Having lived in Orlando for most of her life, she spent most of her years volunteering at animal shelters, playing tennis outdoors, singing in her school’s choir, and competing in debate competitions across the country. At the end of high school, she won a national entrepreneurship competition for an idea to combat the spread of disease in hospitals. At Yale, Hannah is involved in clinical research, coaches debate to local middle schools, and sings with a South Asian a capella group, and continues to work on her disease prevention project.

Upon hearing the news of being chosen Hannah said, “I’m so honored to have won the 2017 Brighter Future Scholarship! The scholarship is something that will definitely ease the burden of paying for college. I’m passionate about health policy and improving hospital conditions, and this scholarship will allow me to focus more on my interests. I’m very grateful for this opportunity, and look forward to continue working towards better health conditions and improving healthcare practices!”
